Kaikado Tea Canisters

Availability: In stock

Product Description

Since 1875, only one family in Kyoto has single-handedly produced KAIKADO canisters using an original technique with over 130 steps. These traditional tea canisters, known as chazutsu, posses a beauty that is revealed over time -- their metal surfaces changing color as they age. Although these canisters are principally used for storing tea, KAIKADO canisters can store coffee, seeds, beans or any other item that must be kept away from moisture.

Extended care and handling instructions: (1) Do not wash the canister. We thoroughly sanitize each canister prior to shipment. (2) Do not place the canister in the refrigerator of freezer as the material is susceptible to moisture and humidity. (3) If you should get water on your canister, please wipe it off with a soft dry cloth and gently rub the canister to avoid moist spots. (4) It is important to lift the top of the canister lid softly from the body in order to prevent any possibility of damage. (5) When closing the canister lid please adjust the joint line on the lid with the joint line on the body. This will allow the lid to go down slowly by itself and the air will be released from the canister. Gently push the lid to close at the last moment. This will prevent air from entering the canister. (6) After purchasing, you will perceive a normal yet subtle change in the colour tone of your chazutsu: copper in 2-3 months, brass in 1-2 years, tin in 3-5 years. Like a fine wine, your chazutsu will become more appreciated with age.
