Details

Takeshi Nii created the "NY chair" in 1958 and named it after his family name 'Nii' and after the Danish word for 'new' and 'fresh'. His original inspiration for the chair came from Danish fabric chairs and the director chairs. MoMA selected his design in 1970 as part of their permanent collection and the "NY chair" only became available for domestic distribution in 2005.
